Colliery Patriotism.
The Dearne Valley Colliery, Darfield one of the smaller mines in the Barnsley area, has raised £4,000 for the wives of its married soldiers, and £1,600 for the dependents of the single men.
The owners have contributed half the fund, and have given 1,600 tons free coal.
Also, £700 was last week distributed by the company among fifty demobilised men and there is to a further distribution at a later stage of demobilisation.
