Dance Hall Billet
Gunner Gordon A. F. Smith, of the Royal Artillery, whose wife resides at Illsley Road, Darfield, is billeted in a dance hall, somewhere abroad and is very comfortable.
He writes home to say that Armistice Day and the Sunday following was a holiday for them.
He has made some good pals, but has not yet met a Darfield lad out there. There is plenty of plain food, but he appreciates a few “little extras,” which his young wife frequently sends him, and also English cigarettes.
Gunner Smith who is 28, was a reservist, his parents are licensees of the Angler’s Rest, at Wombwell. He has been abroad about eight weeks, and was married during a short leave, just before going out.
