Darfield Producer
Thomas William Illsley, Junior, of Darfield, is a versatile man. His one great passion, however, is amateur drama and in that work nothing is too much trouble for him, whether it be producing a play, acting a part of making and shifting scenery.
He does all the things well, and for that reason is a very popular member of Darfield Dramatic Club.
He has been associated with this society since their formation 13 years ago, and it was largely due to his enthusiasm that the club held together during the war, and are now considered one of the liveliest dramatic clubs in South Yorkshire.
Tom, who is 34, was educated at Wath Grammar School, but for health reasons could not complete his education at school. He began writing scripts for sketches and pantomimes, which were performed under his direction at Snape Hill Methodist Church, Darfield.
He has produced nearly a score of plays—and acted in most of them—for Darfield, and his production last year ” Dangerous Corner ” in the British Drama League festival competition earned the adjudicator’s praise.
