Thurnscoe Man in Middlecliffe Mishap

Arnold Ogley (61) of 23, John Street, Thurnscoe, was fatally injured in a road accident in the fog at Middlecliffe, near Darfield, yesterday morning. Mr. Ogley was riding an auto-cycle over the crossroads on his way from work at Houghton Main Colliery, when he was involved in an accident with a service bus travelling from Great Houghton to Barnsley and died shortly afterwards.

Mr. Ogley, who leaves a widow and two sons, had been employed at Houghton Main Colliery since leaving school. He was well known as a referee under the Barnsley Football Association and was secretary of Houghton Main Welfare football club.

An old Darfielder Mr. Ogley has brothers and a sister in that district. One is Mrs. Elsie Nortcliffe of 8, Church Street, Darfield and two brothers are Mr. Jack Ogley, 11, Edward Street, Darfield, and Mr. Tom Ogley, 23, East Street, Darfield.  They are sons and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ogley, who lived at Darfield Bridge.
