Bananas Sent Home

Arthur Alexander Barnes was born in Canada, and came to England to reside with relatives at Darfield in boyhood.

He joined the R.A.S.C. four years ago and then resided with Mr. and Mrs. Dan Smith, his aunt and uncle, and was a bus driver.  At Christmas he sent them an airgraph bearing a self-portrait.

He also sent home a lot of bananas which, though very green when they left Africa, were not ripe enough when they reached Darfield.
