Airman Killed
News reached Mr. and Mrs. J. Markham, of East Street, Darfield, on Tuesday by telegram that their son, Sergt. Jack Markham, of the R.A.F., had been , killed in flying operations.
Jack, who was 20, was a rear gunner. He joined the R.A.F. at the age of 18. Previously he attended Wath Grammar School. Fourteen times he has been out over Germany and other countries on bombing expeditions.
Recently when home on leave Jack became engaged to Miss Susie Wigley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Wigley, of Great Houghton. They were to have been married in August. Susie joined the W.A.A.F. only a fortnight ago.
