Leeds Intelligencer January 4, 1796
On Tuesday night last some villains attempted to break into the house of the Rev H Cooke, of Darfield.
Mr Cooke having heard a noise, looked out of the window, and seeingĀ two men, asked them what business they had there, when one of them replied that he had got a ball for him, and immediately fired, but happily the ball passed Mr Cooke and lodged in the wainscott.
The fellows then made off.
