Mexborough & Swinton Times – Friday 19 August 1932
The Stairfoot Corps of the Salvation Army sent Miss Grace Oldfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Oldfield, Bank House, Snape Hill, Darfield to the William Booth Training College, Denmark Hill, London, yesterday, as a candidate for a commission.
Miss Oldfield is 21 years of age, and despite the fact that other members of her family are not members of the Salvation Army, has taken a keen interest in the work from early childhood. During the year 1927-28, when a branch of the Army opened at Darfield she was appointed junior Sergt. Major. Since then she has been a staunch member of the Stairfoot corps.
Her ideal in life is to become an officer working in the slum areas.
Army friends of Miss Oldfield assembled at the Stairfoot headquarters on Monday to give a farewell tea and social evening in her honour.
There was a happy assembly presided over by Capt. Marsden. During the evening the company were entertained by Worsboro’ Bridge Salvation,Army Band and Songsters.
