Coal at the Cross Roads.
While excavating for building at Cat Hill cross roads, Darfield, on the Doncaster and Saltersbrook main road last week, workmen uncovered a seam of coal three and a half feet thick, only six feet from the surface.
The photograph shows (left) Mr. Thompson, the contractor in charge of the work, standing on the bed of coal, which is believed to be an outcrop of the Silkstone seam, The coal is being got and used for cooking by the workmen on the job.
