Darfield and Grimethorpe met in the final of the above competition at Oakwell on Saturday, before a moderate attendance.
Darfield were soon aggressive. Grimethorpe, however, raised the siege and went to the other end. Driver scoring with a good shot after 12 minutes, this success hardly being deserved on the run of the play.
Gibbs, for Darfield, was unfortunate with a splendid shot. Jackson bringing off remarkable save. Ross, however, was more successful, equalising matters.
After some hot work in goal mouth, Bird put Darfield ahead, but from a breakaway Driver again scored an equalising goal.
Darfield were later awarded a penalty for a foul on Gibbs, but Jackson saved Bird’s shot in brilliant style.
Half-time: Darfield 2, Grimetborpe 2.
Darfield dominated the game in the second half, and they scored goals through Bird, Scargill, and Gibbs.
Subsequently Rooney reduced Darfield’s lead.
Result: Darfield 5. Grimethorpe 3.
