Darfield Rose Queen
Easel Goldthorpe, the six-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Goldthorpe, 33, Stonyford Road, Darfield, was crowned Queen Rose by Betty Wolsey last week at the Barfield (infant) School before a large crowd of parents.
She was selected by the scholars’ ballot, and was the first queen elected at the school. She was a charming figure in a dainty satin dress of wild rose pink, with a long green satin train underlined with pink and trimmed with rosebuds. She carried a sheaf of multicoloured roses. Her train bearers were Ronnie Pearson and Maurice Rothin, and the crown-bearer Frank Wolsey. She was also attended by six maids of honour.
The procession proceeded to a throne draped in green, where Betty Wolsey placed a crown of roses and fern on her head and gave her a doll, a surprise gift from the head teacher, Miss Soden. After the ceremony the infants delighted their parents with songs, dances and playlets.
