Darfield Woman’s Theft.
Yesterday at the Barnsley West Riding Police Court. Elizabeth Pearce, of Darfield, was bound over for six months for stealing postal order and stamps value 17s., the property of Mary Elizabeth Bailey, of 1, Snape Hill, Darfield.
It was stated that Mrs. Bailey was ill and at present in the Sheffield Royal Infirmary. Mrs. Pearce had been in the habit of going Mrs. Bailey’s house to do house work. On September 1st, Mrs. Bailey purchased a postal order for 16s. and 1s. worth of stamps and placed them in a cupboard. Later the postal order and stamps were missed.
Accused said that Mrs. Bailey’s six-year-old girl gave her the postal order and she was afraid to return it for fear that Mrs. Bailey would accuse her of stealing it.
