Nelson League

Steve Smallman (Darfield Bridge) is a member of a well-known football family, of which there are five representatives, playing in local junior football in the Wombwell district.

He is a clever full-back, a determined tackler and a powerful kicker.  He can be relied upon to give of his best for the full ninety minutes.  He played a big part in the “Brigands” recovery at Broomhill last week-end which enabled them to share the points.  Smallman is just over 20, weighs 11st. 5lbs. and is 5ft. 9 ins. in height.

Darfield Bridge, who are fighting hard for honours in the Nelson League, put up a great fight against the league leaders at Broomhill.  At half-time the “Brigands” were losing 3-0 but came within an ace of snatching both points.  Chance, Hirst and Bailey were the pick of the Darfield forwards, while Joe Smallman played a great game in the Broomhall defence.
