Darfield Man’s South Elmsall Post

Mr. George A. Pearson, headmaster of Silkstone Council School, has been appointed headmaster of the Westfield Lane Modern School, South Elmsall, and began his duties on Monday.

A native of Darfield, Mr . Pearson attended Barnsley Grammar School and was later an external student at London University. His first teaching post was at the Balby Street School, Denaby, from which he went to the Pontefract Road School Cudworth.

On re-organisation of local schools he was appointed to the staff of Cudworth Modern School where he was physical training instructor for two years. In 1937 he was appointed headmaster at Silkstone and was in charge of the local evening classes.

Mr. Pearson took an active part in the public life of Silkstone. He was billeting officer, a member of the local Hospital Committee. Vice president of the Cricket and football Club, and founded a branch of the W.E.A. from which a student won a scholarship to the International Summer School at Geneva. He has been a special constable for two years. Mr. Pearson is married.
