Presentation to Darfield Main Colliery Officials

On Tuesday night the workmen and officials employed at the Darfield Main Colliery held a monster gathering in the Primitive Methodist Chapel, Low Valley, for the purpose of presenting Mr. Chambers, the manager, and Mr. Golightly, the engineer, with testimonials on the occasion of their leaving the colliery.

The gathering was certainly a manifesto of the love and esteem which the two gentlemen have been held daring their management of the colliery. Upon the workmen learning that Mr. Chambers and Mr Golightly intended leaving the colliery (the former having been there eight years and the latter seven) a moment was immediately set about to give some token of recognition of their manly and gentlemanly uprightness in all dealings with the workmen.

Tuesday afternoon was the point time to the presentation, which is celebrated by a public tea been provided in the Darfield Main Wesleyan Day Schools, and the Primitive schoolroom, when exceeding 50 workmen with their wives and children sat down, being ably attended to by the following ladies:

Misses Roxy, Campo John Tom Green, Priestley, Smallwood and Mesdames Hall, Priestley, Page, Wake and J Lakin.

After tea a crowded meeting was held in the Primitive Chapel for the purposes of making the presentation, which were as follows:

To Mr Chambers:

A splendid 20 days marble clock, with six solid bronze pillars; a pair of solid bronze Mali horses with a pair of solid bronze cups on marble pillars, all to match the clock;

To Mrs Chambers:

A gold ring set with diamonds and sapphires

To Mr Golightly:

Gold keyless watch (centre seconds)

To Mr Golightly

A gold ring set with pearls and diamonds
