Mexborough & Swinton Times – Saturday 01 February 1941
Seaman Killed.
A telegram with the news that Seaman Harold Dronfield had been accidentally killed was handed to his young wife, Mrs. H. Dronfield of West Street, Darfield, on Wednesday evening . On reading the news Mrs. Dronfield collapsed and had to receive medical attention.
Dronfield, who was 32, was a first class stoker and had been in the Royal Navy for 12 years. He was home on leave, accompanied by a friend, only a week ago.
A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dronfield, of Little Houghton, he lived with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnson, of West Street, Darfield, until he joined the Navy.
About four years ago he married Miss Catherine Beadon, only child of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Beedon, of West Street.
It is expected that further details as to how he met his death will be forthcoming during the week-end, and it is possible that the funeral will take place at Darfield.
