First Class Stoker
Horace Venables
last week, First Class Stoker Venables of HMS Queen Elizabeth, came home on leave to his parents, Mr and Mrs Venables, of School St, Darfield.
Venables joined the Navy’s 3 ½ years ago, and was first requisitioned to HMS Suffolk, then to a ship which was sung by a mine, and he with others, had to swim for his life.
He was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth, and has seen a good deal of heavy service in the Mediterranean.
His brother W Venables, of the R.F.A., has served seven months, and owing to a defective year has now been discharged.
