After Six Years
After six years separation, Mr. W. Boyce of North Street Darfield, was able to visit William Boyce, his son, who is now in the military hospital in England.
Wilfred Boyce, who is 23, joined the York and Lancaster Regiment seven years ago. Six years ago, he was drafted abroad and has been with the Eighth Army in Crete, Greece and Sicily. He was wounded in the arm in a recent battle, but this has now healed. He was suffering from fever and dysentery when he reached the hospital.
When the news reached Mr. Boyce’s home that his son was in England, he and his daughters were away on holiday. When they arrived home and found the letter, they quickly made arrangements to go south where there was a happy reunion.
Wilfred says he ran up against Cpl. George Morton, of the Military Police Force, also of North Street, Darfield. They met in Tripoli. He has also seen Jack Pugsley of the Coldstream Guards, of Shrogg’s Head Green, Darfield. Wilfred hopes to come to Darfield before long to renew acquaintances with old pals.
