Soldier – Heeley, Gilbert – Attached to R.A.

January 1941

Mexborough & Swinton Times – Saturday 25 January 1941

Gilbert Heeley, of Doncaster Road, Darfield, is attached to the R.A. Before enlistment he worked as a builder’s labourer. He regrets leaving his wife and two young boys, but otherwise likes Army life.

He is looking well and says the food far surpasses what people are able to get at home.

Stationed somewhere in England, he was surprised the other day to come across Jack Routledge, of Darfield, who is stationed about a couple of miles away.
