Both footballer and runner was William Pearson, of George Street, Low Valley, prior to joining the Pioneer Corps. He used to play football for Low Valley.

He likes his Army life and enjoys the good food. When on a lorry recently he broke his arm and has been confined to hospital for some weeks.
