Miss Margaret Elizabeth Barnes, niece o’f Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Barnes, of HighfieId Range, Darfield, was married at Darfield Parish Church last Thursday to Petty Officer Douglas Sayles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sayles, of North Street, DarfieId.
The choral service was conducted by the Rev. H. Drown, and Mr. G. Strickland was organist.
Given away by her uncle. Mr. T. Barnes the bride wore a gown of ivory lace over net, which fell to form a short train, and her long embroidered net veil was surmounted with a cluster of gardenias. She carried pink roses.
The bridesmaids were Mrs. Betty Carver and Miss Eva Barnes in blue lace dresses and matching Dresden caps with floral centres. Both carried Bibles. Three younger attendants were Misses Margaret and Joan Barnes and Jean Davies in pale pink satin with matching caps and carrying pink muffs.
Mr, John Sayles was best man and Mr. Chas. Ward groomsman. The honeymoon was spent in Scotland, the bride travelling in a grey ensemble.
