Wedding – CampleJohn & Gray 

Hundreds of people witnessed the wedding at Darfield Parish Church on Monday of Miss Irene Camplejohn, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Campbell John, 130 Snape Hill Rd, Darfield.

The paths to the church were also filled with people, who stayed during the ceremony despite the rain. The bride has been a nurse on the staff of Newark Hospital for nearly two years. The bridegroom, Mr. Frank Gray is son of Mr. and the late Mrs. Gray. H. Halderton Gate, Newark. He has assisted his father in a newsagency business, but will now carry on the business himself as his father is retiring.

The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. H. Sigel, and Mr. Gerald Strickland played the organ.

The bride was given away by hear father and wore ivory satin beaute with cowl collar and matching coatee, and carried red roses and fern. Little train bearers were Gordon, Dorothy and Jean Camplejohn. The boy wore white satin Gate Greenaway suit, and the girls period gowns of white satin, net Dutch caps with rosebud trimmings. They carried Victorian posies of ruses.

The elder maids were Misses Kathleen Gray and Edna Camplejohn in green satin beaute, the former with matching coatee and the latter with cape collar. All wore smart black panne velvet berets and black satin shoes, and carried sheafs of bronze chrysanthemums.

The bridegroom was attended by Messrs. R. Deckhouse (Newark), and Eric Hughes (Nottingham). Mr. and Mrs. Cohn Camplejohn entertained nearly 200 guests in the Wombwell Reform Club.

The bridegroom’s gilt to the bride was a mink marmot fur coat, and mahogany dressing table stool, The bride’s gift to the bridegroom was a chromium plated wrist watch.

Among other presents were those from the sisters and staff at Newark Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Gray are honeymooning on the west coast.
