Houghton Main.
Satisfactory Settlement after Ten Weeks’ Dispute.
The news that a settlement has been arrived at in regard to the dispute which has existed between the proprietors of the Houghton Main Colliery and their employees in the Melton Field seam has been received with intense satisfaction, in and around Darfield and Wombwell.
The employers made an application for a reduction in wages on the ground that the Seam was unremunerative. This the men rejected with the result that the seam has been closed and 750 hands have been idle for about ten weeks.
The agreement is said to be satisfactory to both parties and it is expected that work will be in full swing by Thursday next.
