A Darfield Bowls Champion

Mr. Vincent Hayes, of Highfield Range, Darfield, one of the most skilful and enthusiastic bowls players in the district has again had a successful season. Last month he won first prize and the silver Cowcill Cup at Silkstone W.M. Club’s amateur bowls competition, which had nearly a hundred competitors from all parts of the district, including c o u n t y players. There Mr. Hayes also defeated W. Hutchinson, the well-known county player, who was the winner of the Cowcill trophy last year, in the second round.

It was the first time Mr. Hayes had played on the Silkstone green. On Saturday he won the Hemsworth Conservative Charity Cup at Hemsworth. Since 1926 he has assisted Darfield Welfare bowls team, and is a delegate and member of the committee of the Welfare Bowls Club. During the last few seasons he has won prizes all over the district, including Westville, Huddersfield, Wombwell and Barnsley.
