Council Cricket Cavalcade

After having waited three hours for the wicket to dry following Saturday afternoon’s torrential downpour. Darfield managed to resume their Yorkshire Council game against Thorncliffe at Darfield, but played only one more over when a heavy storm again sent them off field.

This time the match was abandoned.

Having pitched their wickets for half past two, the club managed to get in nearly ahalf a hours play before the storm. Ralph Wilks score 17 and Ian Randerson 10 not out. At that stage Darfield had scored 28 for one. The game was re-started at six o’clock, but almost immediately the rain came again.

Darfield’s Doncaster League away game against Barnsley Co-op was rained off before a start was made.

A Record of  won three, drawn one, lost none, represents Darfield’s best Yorkshire Council start for several seasons, They notched up their third Victory over English Steel Corporation at Darfield on Sunday, being all out for 134 and dismissing the visitors for 117.

Rodger Swift was the big hitter with a score of 49, while Stuart Anderson scored 28 and Ian Randerson 24. E.S.C’s D. Beedon claimed three wickets for 19, and Williams three for 47.

The visitors top scorers were Ward A. (32) and Simpson (17) Darfield’s Dennis Batty and veteran Jack Ennis were again stars of the attack, taking five for 34 and four for 63 respectively.

In complete contrast to their disappointing performances the previous week, Cortonwood returned to their usual form to put upa couple of fine displays last week-end.

Inflicting the first defeat of the season on Steel, Peech and Tozer at Brampton on Sunday, they kept well in the running for honours, asserting themselves in third place in the “A” section of the South Riding League. It was a good win for Cortonwood in that last season S.P. and T. figured in Yorkshire Council champions play-offs.

Maltby had three Wickets down for 25, and then, because it was obvious that a victory would be out of the question. Cortonwood lessened the attack and allowed Maltby to go on to a score of 70 for three. Maltby’s J. Martin carried his bat for 32. Phillip Wrightson took two wickets for 20 runs, and Geoff. Biram one for 24.

Batting for an hour and a quarter, Cortonwood put up a score of 103 for three, which Brodsworth wiped out with 104 for four, in a Yorkshire Council Minor league game at Corton wood. Normal overs rules went by the board because of a long rain interruption.

Cortonwoods Malcolm Turner scored a notable 53. Skipper Martin Guy’s declaration allowed Brodsworth an hour and a half in which to reach the target, and this they did

Denaby and Cadeby v Brodsworth 32 for 3

Denaby & Cadeby drew with Brodsworth at Woodlands on Saturday in the Yorkshire Council. Scored were Brodsworth 32 for 3. Best bowling  performances for Denaby were by Lawley 1 for 7 and Parker 2 for 20.

With the Brodsworth score at 32 for 3 and 18 of their allotted overs gone, Denaby were in a good position when Saturday’s thunderstorms made any further play impossible.
