Joie de Vivre

Still full of the joie de vivre Abraham Hesketh, a native of Low Valley, visits his relatives and friends in the districts of Darfield, Low Valley, and Wombwell frequently. He now resides at Parkgate, and is nearly 88 years of age, but on his frequent visits he hikes from Parkgate to Darfield and back the same day. Walking is his great joy, and it keeps him fit. Ever since he retired from the butchering business 20 years ago, he has been in the habit of walking scores of miles a week.

As a lad he worked at Lundhill Colliery, and later at Darfield Main. In middle age he took a butchering business at Parkgate. He has been married twice; his second wife died a few years ago, after they had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. White, wife of Mr. P. White, of Snape Hill, is Mr. Hesketh’s niece, and Mrs. Wilkinson, Providence Street, Low Valley, is his sister.
