Darfield Publican and his Pigs

Charged with a disobedience of the Swine Fever orders, James Beckford, innkeeper, of Snape Hill was at Barnsley today fined 40 shillings and costs.

Defendant bought nine pigs at South Elmsall on April 8 and was allowed to move them to Darfield on condition that he kept them isolated there for 28 days.

He sold two of the pigs, one which died, this being, superintendent Quest explained, the reason the matter came to the knowledge of the police.

Defendant’s explanation was that he never read his licence.
