Darfield Road Collapse

Shortly after the passage of a traction engine last Thursday, the cavity shown in the photograph appeared at the crossroads, Cat Hill, Darfield.

The cavity is 7 feet across, and a great depth, and is believed to be due to old mine workings near the surface.

By great good fortune, the collapse took place during the day, and was discovered before any accident occurred
