Death Of Rev. H. Drown
Former Darfield Rector
Darfield parishioners and friends from a wide area learned with regret of the death of the Rev. Harold Drown M.A. (74) former rector of Darfield for fifteen years and Rural District of Wath for five years. His death occurred last week in a hospital near Chichester, Sussex, where he had been for five weeks. The funeral service took place at Christ Church, Worthing, on Monday followed by cremation
He leaves a widow, one son, the Rev. Richard Drown M.A. who is a teacher in King’s College, Budo, Kampala, Uganda, engaged on missionary work, and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Turvey, who is married to the Rev. R. Hilton Turvey, M.A., Vicar of St George’s, Leeds.
Mr. Drown was former vicar of Holy Trinity, Scarborough, from 1918-1924 and of St. Jude’s, Milmay Park London, from 1924-1935. He was rector of Darfield from 1935- 1950 and Rural Dean of Wath from 1945-1950. Prior to his retirement to Goring-by-Sea, Worthing, he was Vicar of Holy Trinity, Southwell. During his incumbency at Darfield, he re-introduced the Parish Magazine, re-opened St. Matthew’s Mission Church, at |Low Valley, and introduced the free-will offering envelope scheme.
