Empire Day

Empire Day was celebrated at Darfield by a good show of flags.

The schoolchildren sang patriotic songs. Children attending the Darfield school were paraded on the cricket field, when good number of people assembled.

Here, assisted by the Girl Guides, the children sang a number of patriotic songs. Miss Darley conducted the singing.

At the conclusion each child received a bun inscribed “G.R..” This is an old custom, adopted by the late Mr C Howard Taylor, and now carried on by his son, Mr R H Taylor.
