South Yorkshire Times, April 7th, 1939.

Maurice Bardsley, 13 year old son of Mr and Mrs Herbert Bardsley, of Coronation Street Darfield, carried off the Blanch Mary Ward Cup at Barnsley Music Festival on Friday in the boy’s treble solo class.

The test piece was “the trout.” he was also awarded a silver medal. Maurice won a second at Pontefract festival a few weeks ago.

Last year he won a first at Armthorpe Musical Festival and previously won numerous certificates, including a first at Mexborough Festival and a second at Pontefract.

Eunice Thompson, of Barnsley Road, Darfield was also awarded a second at the Barnsley Festival in the duet class, her partner being M. Jepson, of Wombwell. Eunice resides at Barnsley Road, Darfield, and also has had many success at various festivals. Maurice is a member of Darfield Wesley Chapel
