Golden Wedding.
Fifty years ago last Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. William Parry, of The Bungalows, Darfleld, were married at Darfield Parish Church.
Mr. Parry recalls that it was Whit- Sunday, and he and his-wife drove to church for the ceremony in one of the late Mr. Martin Stenton’s wagonettes. It was snowing at the time. The marriage was performed by the Rev. Lane. Mrs. Parry, is 74, ,and with the exception of about six years has spent all her life in Stairfoot and Darfield.
Mr. Perry is 72, and worked at the coal face at Houghton Main from the age of 19 until he was 62. Since then he has lived in retirement. He and his wife like their wireless, and share a love of films.
Mr. Parry is a member of the British Legion Club. Mr. and Mrs. Parry have one son, Mr. William Francis Parry, of Barnsley Road. He served in the last war, and was the first in this district to win his D.C.M.
On Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Parry received several Golden Wedding cards, and regretted that rationing made it impossible for them to hold a party.
