Highgate Crash

As the result of a motor accident on the main Doncaster-Barnsley road at the Water Bridge, Highgate, to-day, two people were taken to the Barnsley Beckett Hospital, and for just over an hour all traffic was turned back and diverted round Billingley and Thurnscoe.

A motor-lorry carrying a load of sand in the direction of Darfield was overtaking a stationary car. Before the driver, William Henry Bouskill, of 29, New Street, Darfield, could pull to his proper side of the road he had to brake in an attempt to avoid a collision with an oncoming saloon.

Owing to the greasy roads, when he applied his brakes the back-end of the lorry swung round and collided with the saloon. The car was wrecked.
