Farm to Navy

From farm to Navy has been the record of Robert Marley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marley, of Victoria Street, Darfield. Robert was 21 last month.

Leaving farm work Robert enlisted in the Navy about two years ago, and has been out to Gibraltar on the “Warspite.” He is a first-class gunner and has won a special badge.

At present he is not well, and has gone into a hospital in England for a slight operation. His letters are always cheery and bright, and while he has been in the Navy he has sent home money he has saved towards helping to get his invalid father a special kind of chair so that he can be taken out.

While in the South of England he has also learned to type, and feels this will be useful to him when he leaves the Navy.
