Result of the By-Election.

Last Saturday a great deal of interest was aroused the by-election to fill the vacancy on the Urban District Council caused by the death of Mr. Thomas Hancock.

By many it was anticipated that the voting would be close, but the contrary proved the case, Mr. Robert Hanson Ward, who unsuccessfully contested the seat at last election, now being returned by huge majority.

The figures were:—R. H. Ward, licensed victualler, 357; William Swain, colliery check weighman 197; majority 160.
