Mr  Brass, former officer of the York and Lancaster Regiment, has been awarded the French Croix de Guerre with Star, the French Croix de Guerre with Palms, and the Medaille Militaire , for great gallantry in France.

He is the younger brother of Mr J Brass, Houghton Main Colliery
