Captain George De Ville Smith (York and Lancs),

was a lay reader in the Darfield parish previous to the outbreak of hostilities, conducting servces at Low Valley Mission, and latterly was appointed curate at St Thomas’s Church, Worsbrough Dale.

He is among the officers killed in the recent action.
