Soldier – Guest, Roy – Letter From Voyager.

November 194

Mexborough & Swinton Times – Saturday 04 October 1941

Letter From Voyager.

The father and young wife of Mr. Roy Guest were pleased to receive news from him on Monday. Roy is the son of Mr. J. Guest, of South View, Darfield. He is in the R.A. as a motor mechanic, following his former trade.

For many years he was a driver of Messrs. Camplejohn’s buses and later of Yorkshire Traction buses. His letter to his father, written on board ship, stated that it was lovely on board and very hot. He was wearing shorts and a topee. He wished he could send them some of the good things he was enjoying, oranges, jam in plenty, sweets and cigarettes, etc.

He was still with his pals from England, and they were looking forward to landing at their destination. The letter was not dated. Roy particularly asked for newspapers, and ever since joining up he has had the ” South Yorkshire Times ” sent to him.
