Lance Corporal J Prendergast
Mr Robert Prendergast, of Church View, Darfield, has received news that his son, Lance Corporal John Prendergast (York and Lancaster) was killed in action the last day of June.
Lance Corporal Prendergast was one of the first to volunteer to serve his country in August 1914.
He has seen service in Egypt and France, and was badly wounded in July 1916, which necessitated stay in a London hospital for four months.
Previous to the war, he worked at Houghton Main colliery
