Darfield Sportsman

Driver Edward Round, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Round, of Barnsley Road, Darfield, who is stationed in the near East, enlisted five years ago.

He was then a fitter at Darfield Main Colliery and joined up when hardly eighteen years of age. In a recent letter home he says he never felt better in his life.

Prior to enlistment. Round was fond of boxing and football, but since going in the Army has also gone in for hockey, swimming and roller-skating. For boxing and swimming he has won medals. Recently in a cricket match he took five of six wickets for 31 runs, and in desperately hot weather too!

Edward looks forward to his copy of the ” South Yorkshire Times.” which keeps him in touch with his old comrades. His father fought and was wounded in the Great War.
