Lieutenant W Clifford Watkin

Lt W Clifford Watkin, son of Mr and Mrs R Watkin, of Holly House, Darfield, has been awarded the military Cross for gallantry in the field.

Lt Watkin joined the R.A.M.C.soon after the commencement of hostilities, and after eight months was granted a commission in the tunnelling section of the Royal Engineers, which unit he was serving when he one is well merited distinction.

Lt Watkin was formally assistant manager at the Houghton Main Colliery.
