Tailpiece

A young friend of Mark Twain was bewailing his own lack of success as a writer.

“I am beginning to lose confidence in myself,” he said.  “Did you ever have that feeling?”

“Yes,” said Mark Twain, “but it took a long time in coming.  One day, after I had been writing for 15 years, it suddenly dawned on me that I did not possess the slightest talent for writing.”

“What did you do?”

“What did I do? I couldn’t give it up. By that time, I was famous.”
