Alleged Theft of Coal at Darfield

At the Barnsley West Riding Police Court yesterday, William Thomson, miner, Darfield, was brought up charge of having stolen 1 ½ hundredweight of coal, belonging to Charles Pearson, innkeeper, Mill House, Darfield on Saturday night.

Superintendent Kane said the man was seen to go to the coal heap at the rear of the inn and carry away several pieces of coal.

A witness informed the prosecutor, who set watch for the prisoner, who returned for another lot of coal.

Information was given to the police, and it was found the quantity named had been taken away.

Remanded until Friday next.
