Threat to Darfield Church

These pictures give an idea of the alarming effect of subsidence of the fabric of the historic Darfield Parish Church.

Of course, the tilt of the tower (right) had been given by our photographer, but a sinister -looking crack may be seen in the wall.

The rector, the Rev H Drown (left) is seen examining large pieces of masonry which fell from one of the pillars last week.

The portion of the church adjoining the pillar has been roped off, and warning notices advise worshippers not to use the pews.
