Wedding – Ward & Dyson

October 1941

Mexborough and Swinton Times October 18, 1941

Miss Phyllis Ward, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Ward, of Victoria Street, Darfield, was married at All Saints’ Church, Barfield, on Saturday, to Mr. Thos. Dyson, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Dyson, of Middlecliffe. The service was choral.

The bride’s uncle, Mr. G. Strickland, was organist. Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of Chantilly lace over ivory taffeta. The dress was in period style, and had a heartshaped neck. It was embroidered in diamante beads, and the skirt formed a short train. The embroidered net veil, lent by her sister, Mrs. Trown, of Billingley, formed a graceful train, and was attached to a cluster of ostrich feather Camellias. She wore a gold cross and chain, and carried cream roses.

Attending her was Miss Beryl Hyde, of Wombwell, in turquoise blue georgette over taffeta and net. She wore a fuchsia coloured panne velvet sash and the yoke, trimmed with gold sequins, matched her gold sequin Juliet cap, attached to a plait of turquoise georgette. She carried bronze chrysanthemums. Miss Bett Dyson (Leeds) was also in attendance, and wore a turquoise dress in taffeta and a gold sequin Juliet cap, and carried bronze chrysanthemums. Both had powder compacts, gifts of the bridegroom. Mr. Ernest Sills, of Middlecliffe was best man, and Mr. Haydn Ward groomsman.
