Promotion for Darfield Man

Mr William Edwin Buckley of Oak Lea, 3, Saltersbrook Darfield, who for a number of :years has been chief chemist and assistant manager to the Houghton Main Colliers Bye-Product Works, has now been appointed manager of the company’s coke and by-Product Works in succession to Mr. E. J. Maskell, who retired at the end of 1940, after being with the company for nearly a quarter of a century.

Mr. Buckley who is a Sheffield man, received the greater part of his training at Sheffield University. He is author of a number of technical papers on subjects connected with coal carbonisation, and was, up to the commencement of the war, Lecturer in Fuel Technology and Coal carbonisation at Doncaster Technical College.

For a number of years he has also been a member of the committee of the Midland section of the Coke Oven Managers Association, and last year was elected a member of the National Council of that body, which is the leading technical society of the by-product coking industry.
